Debunking Mobile Myths

In 2014 most people will visit your website using a mobile device. But while we know you'll look svelte holding your iPhone, your website might not fare so well on the other end. It could look like a genetic mutation gone bad.

The Truth About Mobile Design Strategy

That super distracted stereotype who's texting in one hand, sending an email on his iPad with the other, and balancing a latte on top of his head while driving doesn't really exist. Yet too often we design for these mythical mobile users, creating mobile apps and websites as lite versions of their desktop counterparts. Instead, mobile apps should almost always do MORE than their desktop doppelgangers.

"Tapworthy" author Josh Clark joined us at Paramore University to debunk seven stubborn mobile myths in explaining the difficult craft of designing simple interfaces for complex mobile apps and sharing techniques for future-friendly mobile efforts. Josh also broke down how, when and where to use mobile apps, why there's no such thing as the mobile web, and why the future is about services, not apps.

Avoiding the Knowledge Coffin

What You Need to Know When Choosing your CMS

It's time to stop burying all that content you just spent weeks on in the knowledge coffin that is your CMS. We have to rethink and redefine what "Content Management System" means.

Is its purpose just to manage your content? No. The truth is that all major CMS systems are proficient at managing content. The real question is this: Can your CMS bring life to customers and the community at large?

Leslie Camacho, CEO of EllisLab, looked behind the code and revealed what makes a CMS effective, efficient, and right for your business. No more dirt naps. Let your content live.

In-House Marketing Departments

My Observations

David Baker joined us yet again to share his observations on what's happening in in-house marketing departments around the world. Is the body count rising or falling? If you work for one of them, how do you build respect through your company - and how does this change what you need from an agency or development company?

David Baker is a Principal at Recourses.com and, in our experience, the most straight-talking guy around. Want to know what he thinks? Just stand near him.

David is the author of 3 books, an international speaker and the smartest guy I know. His work has been discussed in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Fast Company, Inc., Forbes, CBS Business Network, MarketingProfs, and BusinessWeek. He also speaks at places like Harvard and TedX.

You might not agree with him, but you'll learn from him. I guarantee it.
